Why Do I Need Jesus Now?

As sinners, you and I live in a constant state of brokenness and alienation from God. We were created to be in a close relationship with God and to bring glory and honor to God. Yet because of sin, you and I are dead -- spiritually dead. We are lost, meaning that we’re not living out the purpose we were created to fulfill.

I may desperately crave life. I may cram my schedule full of activities to give purpose and structure to my life. I may dedicate my life to serving others, but, without Jesus, it is meaningless. Why? Because, I was created to know God intimately and out of my love for Him, honor God with my life.

The problem is that I’m spiritually dead, and a dead person can’t honor God with her life. To do that, I must become spiritually alive. Thankfully, Jesus has already made a way for you and me to become alive.

The punishment for sin is death, yet there is someone who has already taken on the punishment for us. Jesus Christ, both fully God and fully man, lived a perfect life on Earth and died a horrendous death on the cross in place of you and me. Then, He was raised from the dead so that we have hope. As a result, you can become alive if you acknowledge and confess that you are a sinner and believe that Jesus Christ is your Savior (1 Peter 3:18).

As a spiritually alive person, I am restored to a right relationship with God and can look forward to a life forever with Him. My relationship with God not only gives meaning and purpose to my life, but it provides me with a new identity – I am a child of God (John 1:12).
