Camera - A phone is the easiest way for most people to film their coaching session. Today’s phones have excellent cameras and great definition. Feel free to use your phone using these tips!
Storage - Make sure you have enough storage space on your phone before you begin recording. If you end up using a digital camera, all these same tips apply.
Picture mode - Prop your phone up securely in the landscape/sideways position. Do not send videos in portrait/up-and-down mode.
Framing - Use the front facing camera so that you can see your positioning within the frame.
Position - Sit no further than 3-4 feet from your camera. You should be able to easily see your head and shoulders in the frame of the camera. If you look small, you need to be closer. This is important for both the visual aspect of your recording and for the audio.
Location - Avoid very large rooms with hard surfaces that will echo. This would include rooms with tile or hard wood floors.
Lighting - Make sure that your face is well lit. A ring light is fantastic, but lamps in front of you will work, too. Also, stay away from windows behind you to avoid backlighting.
Sound - If available, use a microphone to capture sound well. Headphones or earbuds with a microphone work very well.
Timing - Record for a few seconds before you start. Sit for a few seconds after you're done and before you turn off the camera. This gives us some buffer to create the final edit.
Retakes - If you make a mistake or need to restate something, please do not stop the video. We can edit out retakes.
